The NSW Business Chamber is calling on governments and businesses to fast track training, in response to concerning figures from its first ever Workforce Skills Survey.

It’s shown employers are experiencing skills shortages equating to more than 54 thousand jobs statewide, and the Murray-Riverina region has the second highest percentage of local businesses reporting a skills shortage, with 60%.

The Chamber also says at a time when youth unemployment has reached crisis levels in some areas of NSW, it’s also troubling to see indications of a mismatch between what employers expect from their staff and what our education system is currently producing.
