More poppy crops are predicted for 2018, off the back of the state's first alkaloid poppy crop this year, grown at six locations across the Riverina and Central West.

The NSW government legalised the growing of poppies in 2016, under a stringent licencing scheme, for use in the production of pain relief medications.

Director of Agriculture with TPI Enterprises, Michael Long, is expecting many more farmers will take up the opportunity this year.
