The tragic death of a 7 year old boy after a quad bike accident in Barellan this week has prompted renewed calls for new safety regulations around the use of the vehicles.

Police have confirmed the boy and his 9-year old passenger were both wearing helmets and were supervised on Sunday when the crash happened.

It came just weeks after a 54 year old man was killed in another quad bike accident on a property near Gundagai.

In November 2015 Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund recommended a number of new safety measures for quad bikes, including a licensing system, safety ratings and a 16-plus age restriction.

The NSW Farmers Association encourages farmers to fit their quad bikes with roll-over protection.
