A crackdown on shoplifters in Wagga has seen plain-clothes police catch more than 30 thieves over three days in the city CBD.

Officers say the offenders ranged in age from 14 to 80, nine people have been charged and more than 18 others issued with $300 fines.

Meat and cosmetics were some of the products most often targeted by thieves, backpacks and pants the more common hiding places.
