The NSW government has awarded more than $6,500 in funding to have a letter from a Springdale soldier immortalised in bronze.

Private Ray Harvey sent the letter home to his mother from the Western Front more than a century ago, expressing his profound grief at the loss of his close friend, and fellow Springdale local, Private Niel Penfold, tragically killed in the Battle of Fromelles.

Member for Cootamundra, Katrina Hodgkinson announced the funding, as part of the Community War Memorials Fund.

The memorial will be unveiled on ANZAC Day next year.
