With the mercury set to soar across the Riverina this week, the Murrumbidgee Local Health District is urging people to take the risk of heat-related illness seriously.

Director of Public Health, Tracey Oakman says while it can affect anyone, those over 75, infants and children, people with chronic medical conditions and those who live alone are especially vulnerable.

Mrs Oakman says the heat has arrived early this summer, and it can have more of an impact on wellbeing, because people are not yet acclimatised to it.
