A 43 year old woman from Tumut has been airlifted to Liverpool Hospital, after being trapped in the wreckage of her car in the Central West for around 11 hours.

Police say the woman called triple zero after crashing at around midnight, but couldn't give her exact location, and it's believed her phone battery went flat, so she couldn't be contacted.

A search got underway and her car was spotted by the Ambulance helicopter shortly before 11am yesterday between Sofala and Ilford, paramedics reached her around 20 minutes later.

The woman's son Steven Kemp has told Nine it was a rough 12 hours, but he was relieved when he realised his mother had been found safe and was going to be OK.
