Wagga has ranked number one in the state in respect to firearms offences, with 101 offences recorded since January.

Local police say the majority of the offences have been committed by firearms license holders, and while some are minor in nature, not storing firearms safely is one of their areas of focus.

Officers say the current firearms amnesty permits people to surrender firearms, firearm parts, prohibited weapons and ammunition they are not entitled to possess, but it doesn’t cover the safe storage of firearms and ammunition.
