Celebrating Indigenous Culture

The annual exhibition Noongar Country will open to the public at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries on Friday 30 June from 6pm.

This year more than 30 artists have responded to the theme Six Seasons and the resulting exhibition features artworks by artists at all stages of their career, from emerging artists through to nationally recognised practitioners which tell a range of stories about connection to country.

“The stories and the talent held by our indigenous community is extraordinary,” Manager Arts and Culture Julian Bowron said.

“Noongar Country is an opportunity to showcase the depth and breadth of this talent to a wide audience, and it gives us all the opportunity to learn more about the indigenous history and culture of our region.”

The 2017 exhibition will be officially opened by Murri woman Carly Lane - Curator Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts at the Art Gallery of WA. Cash prizes will be awarded for best overall, highly commended and youth.

The opening will also feature live entertainment from Mandurah-based performer Barron Kelly as well Geographe Region Wines.

All are welcome to attend with the exhibition on display from 1 July to 3
