Officials looking to stop the fruit fly

A new Round of Traps Set to Hit the Region!

The Greater Sunraysia Pest Free Area Committee will be overseeing the second roll out of fruit fly traps from this weekend.

The packages being delivered this time will target both male and female fruit flies before they have a chance to breed, especially before the Summer months hit.

The QFF management has returned data indicating a downward trend in the average number of fruit flies captured in many areas - with officials looking to for locals to put up these traps as another measure of pest management.

Locals are being urged to not only hang the traps in their backyard, but also to remove any fruit as it ripens, keep trees at a manageable size, and use nets to protect fruit once fruit has set in.

Over 38,000 traps will be distributed across Mildura, Merbein, Irymple, Nichols Point, Gol Gol, Buronga, Dareton, Nangiloc, and Red Cliffs.

The group will be distributing traps throughout the Swan Hill Area, Robinvale and Boundary Bend townships next month.
