Chalmers Wines in Merbein have received support from the State Government, with a grant provided for the $89,000 “Future Grape Research Project”.
The scheme will work to establish grape varieties that produce high quality wines adaptable to warmer and drier conditions.
Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford has traveled to the region, announcing a $20,000 grant for the initiative.
The funds come as a part of the State Government Wine Growth Fund, to develop and grow the wine industry in Victoria.
Chalmers Wines will conduct trials of ten imported wine grapes that are more adaptable to a changing climate, with the project developing a database to record optimum growing conditions and techniques.
The database will be freely available to all growers, and will remain open to future updates.
