Mildura to share in homeless funding.

Mildura, Bendigo and Geelong have been pegged as locations for new homeless services as the Government organisation, Haven Home Safe, is set to receive a share of $27M in State funding.

The funds will see the organisation buy 15 properties in these areas for the disadvantaged.

These properties will focus on women and children escaping family violence and those young people experiencing chronic homelessness.

Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing, Martin Foley, says that those who need help will be able to get it with this program.

 

Locals in Mildura and surrounds will now have access to more health services with Victoria Legal Aid entering into a partnership with Sunraysia Community Health Services.

It is reported that the facility will provide free legal advice on issues like tenancy problems, outstanding fines and compulsory mental-health treatment.

The office will also be a place of learning for Victoria Legal Aid as the staff deal with legal issues in a cross border context.

  

The Federal Government needs to ensure that their new Temporary Skills Shortage visa scheme caters for its labour requirements. That’s the message from the National Farmers Federation.

Chief Executive, Tony Mahar, says that the sector is frustrated that occupation lists for the new TSS visa scheme, which will replace 457 visas, still falls short of meeting the needs of the sector.

Agriculture has the potential to become a $100B industry by 2030 providing countless economic opportunities for Sunraysia, but, Mr Maher says that it can’t be achieved without the right policy settings.

  

Rainfall in the Mallee region has been welcomed by producers after a dry start to the season.

Our dry start to the season has had some farmers concerned about meeting the seasonal demands for produce.

The Bureau of Meteorology reports that Mildura has had 32mm of rainfall in the last month.

 

Saturday will see the final round of the Sunraysia Football and Netball League's A Grade Competition before the semi-finals next weekend.
