Locals honoured for services to the community

As the long weekend continues today, a number of locals receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia for their efforts within their profession and the wider community.


Dr Kevin Chambers, psychiatric nurse Michael John Oates, and the late Lorraine Roberts have all been recognised for their efforts.


Dr Chambers has been serving Mildura for decades, is a chair of the Loddon-Mallee District Integrated Cancer Services and a senior lecturer at Monash University Medical School.


He has been a visiting medical officer since 1983, A Founding Surgeon of Surgeons Rooms Mildura since 1994.


Mr Michael John Oates has served as a psychiatric nurse at Mildura base since 1983.


Ms Lorraine Roberts has been awarded the medal for her efforts with veterans and their families, and within the Returned and Services League of Australia at the Red Cliffs and Irymple sub branches.


All three have received a Medal of the Order of Australia, in the General Division.
