The body representing Sunraysia's farmers is calling on Basin governments to focus on strengthening the Murray Darling Basin Plan, rather than pulling it down following the release of the Murray Darling Basin Authority's review at the weekend.
National Farmers Federation Water Spokesperson Les Gordon says farmers, Governments and local communities will need to continue to work together to maximize economic, environmental and social outcomes in the Basin Plan.
Mr. Gordon says the review did raise issues warranting careful consideration, but is not cause for questioning the Plan itself.
Mr Gordon says the practices of the majority of Basin irrigators comply fully with the regulations, and that the review highlights issues with the management of water from unregulated rivers; which is an ongoing challenge.
