As the months get warmer, Sunraysia locals are being urged to stay safe around the water, with Royal Life Saving Australia have launched a new safety campaign ahead of the holiday period.
Recent research has brought to light alarming figures on the impact of drugs an alcohol on drowning rates.
The group looking to decrease this number with the "Mates don't let mates drink drown campaign".
Data shows in the past 10 years, nearly 2000 men have died in our waterways; with 37% of these deaths were whilst under the influence of drugs and or alcohol.
Royal Life Savings Craig Roberts says whilst consuming alcohol can play a massive role creating problematic situations, it also effects CPR efforts too.
