Farmers across the South West region will be safer in the workplace, with the NSW State Government announces the introduction of a new strategy.
Announced by the Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean, the Agriculture Work Health and Health and Safety Sector Plan will be rolled out by Safework NSW, and will aim to drive down injuries and fatalities.
Mr Kean says that while the farming sector makes up just 2.6 percent of the countries workforce, the farming industry accounts for 20 percent of worker deaths.
To ensure this statistic is greatly reduced, the plan will focus on a number of key areas that need improvement.
These include quad bike safety, at risk workers like young people, mental health and well being, those who work at heights, and working with animals.
