The Office of Public Prosecution makes an announcement!

The Office of Public Prosecutions has announced they will appeal the sentence handed to 37-year-old Brandon Osborn - for shooting Mildura Rural City Council worker Karen Belej.

Sunraysia Daily reports: the appeal has been announced for the nine-year jail term Osborn received as the result of a plea deal.

The plea deal was reportedly made because the prosecution had insufficient evidence to prove intent.

The announcement comes following a petition tabled in Parliament by MP for Mildura Peter Crisp with around 9000 signatures from across the region.

The Belej family was present during the tabling and are reportedly scheduled to meet with the Attorney General next week.

The appeal came just in time - with the period set to end last Friday; but was carried through to yesterday evening due to the AFL grand final.
