20 CBD Buildings To Be Demolished For New Train Stations

The NSW government has acquired and will demolish almost 20 buildings in Sydney's CBD to make way for the new underground Metro rail track and stations.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Thursday revealed between 17 and 19 buildings would be demolished over the next year as part of the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro project, sections of which are scheduled to open in the first half of 2019.

The majority of demolitions will occur between Pitt Street and Martin Place with the Metro service eventually expected to carry 90,000 people under Sydney Harbour ever hour.
