A 'Safari Like' Zoo Is Coming To Western Sydney

A world class zoo is opening in the heart of Western Sydney!

It'll boast a range of exotic animals including elephants, gorillas, cheetahs, rhinos, tigers and lions in a "safari like" experience, and is due to open in Summer 2018.

Situated off the Great Western Highway in Blacktown, the Bungarribee zoo won't cage its animals, so families can watch them roam around in a large, open space.

There'll be 30 large animal exhibits, and its expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Minister for Western Sydney, Stuart Ayers, says its a huge boost for the economy.

"Construction of Sydney Zoo will mean a $61 million shot in the arm for the NSW economy, and create 160 full-time jobs during construction with 120 full-time jobs in place during operation," Mr Ayres said.

The zoo will also feature an integrated Aboriginal and natural heritage program, focusing on the local Darug people of Western Sydney.
