Burst Water Main Floods King Georges Road At Hurstville

Police have evacuated 35 people from homes in Hurstville, after a water main burst and caused a gas leak.

King Georges Road is now flooded, and its looking like traffic headaches are on the way for peak hour with the road closed off in both directions.

The leak still needs fixing, then crews will begin working on the water main.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area entirely.

Busses towards Hurstville are also being diverted, and experiencing delays.

Gary Hurley from Sydney Water says the water main burst just after 10am, and is still yet to be fixed.

He says the community's water supply hasn't been impacted, but the biggest disruption is to traffic.

"Police and Fire and Rescue have cordoned off the area, to allow the gas company to get in there," he said.

"Sydney Water does apologise to the community about the disruption that these types of events create".
