NSW Police say an officer allegedly kicked in the head by a teenager in Sydney's northwest will takes weeks to recover.
The 37-year-old officer remains in a serious but stable condition and was among three officers allegedly injured by the 16-year-old boy on Monday night in Marsfield, AAP reports.
Detective Superintendent John Duncan told reporters on Tuesday said the police officer was now "conscious" but had a "long road to recovery" ahead.
The other two officers suffered only minor injuries in the incident which began when police answered calls for help from Macquarie Centre staff.
The teenager who is in custody stands accused of kicking the officer in the face, causing him to hit his head on the pavement.
Det Supt Duncan says he's currently in custody and helping officers at Ryde Police Station, and will likely be charged later today.
