Traffic is beginning to ease on Sydney's M7 motorway with one southbound lane reportedly now open.
Diversions are in place on the Great Western Highway, with emergency services, motorway crew and a tow truck currently working to clear an earlier multi-car crash.
Derek Peterson from the Transport Management Centre told the Triple M Network it's hard to tell when things will clear up.
"Crews have removed some of the vehicles and they are of course working to clear the site, but at this stage the advice is still to avoid the M7," he said.
Mr Peterson said it's a tough wait for those who are caught up in the chaos.
"[Southbound] queues are about 5 and a half kilometres," he added.
[It's] also very heavy traffic north bound on the M7 queued around 14 kilometres as traffic slows down past the crash site."
While Live Traffic Sydney confirmed on Twitter traffic is easing, motorists are still urged avoid the area and seek an alternative route.
