A man has been attacked by a shark early this morning at Iluka Main Beach in Northern NSW.
Byron Bay resident Abe McGrath (35) was out on the water at 6.30am and was hit from underneath throwing him into the air and snapping his board in half.
McGrath was bitten on the hip and his board was in tatters but managed to find his way back to shore and was taken to hospital.
The shark was reportedly a Great White of around 3 metres in length.
The beach was closed shortly after the attack.
