Sydney Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in a unit at Sylvania.
Officers were called to Florida Street, Sylvania at about 645am, following reports of concern for welfare, where they found the body of a 55 year old woman.
Police have arrested the woman's son, a 28 year old man, and seized a pitchfork and crossbow which were found in his car.
A friend has spoken to Fairfax, and says he had recently started hearing voices, and was becoming very withdrawn in the lead up to the alleged attack.
He is currently at Newtown Police Station where he’s assisting with inquiries.

Superintendent Michael O'Toole said it was the woman's other son. aged 31, who found the body.
He is also assisting with inquiries but has not been arrested.
Police believe it is too early to know if or what weapon was used.
The woman’s death is being treated as suspicious and a crime scene has been established.
