Sydney Landlords Flogging 'Rent-Free' Periods In Desperate Attempt To Fill Properties Stock

New reports have shown how desperate landlords are for tenants in NSW, with some offering weeks of rent-free living and drastically dropping prices in a bit to lure tenants.

This comes as nearly one in 10 rental homes currently sit vacant, with an oversupply on new housing in some areas.

Data from a new Rental Affordability Index released during the week has shown that rent has dropped by $100 in some areas of the north shore, far west and northwest.

Kellyville has the highest reported level of vacancies, with nearly 10 per cent empty.

Other suburbs of Epping (6.6 per cent) and Gordon (7.7 per cent) had similarly high numbers.

This has also resulted in some landlords offering generous lease terms, including 'rent-free' periods.

One penthouse in Castle Hill had a four weeks rent-free incentive.
