Now that paper train tickets are officially a thing of the past, train stations are set to get an upgrade to reflect the changing times.
Sydney Trains has decided to lease out the 30 ticket offices at stations across the network, with shops and retailers set to open up.
This comes after the Opal overhaul of the network, which has reduced the need for operational and staff requirements.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, there have been 500 jobs cut from Sydney Trains since the switch to the Opal system in 2013-2014 compared to the 2016-2017 period.
Those who previously staffed the ticket offices at stations have been offered the chance to switch to customer service roles on platforms and concourses.
