Train Strike To Go Ahead Despite Four Hour 'Intense' Meeting

The train strike slated for January 29 is set to go ahead, after negotiations between train bosses and the union failed to reach an agreement.

It is understood that "intense negotiations" were undertaken, which lasted for more than four hours today between Unions NSW and Transport for NSW.

Negotiations are expected to continue over the weekend and Monday as they look to resolve issues such as pay and working conditions.

Rail, Tram and Bus NSW Secretary Alex Claassens said the strike was "still going ahead" at this stage.

Today's meetings are understood to have covered "the overall package".

The stoppage will begin at 12.01am on Monday, January 29.

This happens to also be the day that thousands of children return to school.
