There are reports that a truck has lost its load in Sydney's north-west.

Unfortunately for people travelling through the area, it was carrying a hell of a lot of fish heads and guts, which were strewn across New Line Road in Dural.

The incident is understood to have happened yesterday afternoon (right time for peak hour traffic), with the tailgate of the truck full of salmon falling open.

Police had to attend the scene to divert traffic while fire crews hurried to clear the 100m by 30m patch of blood, guts and fish heads.

Locals living a few kilometres away began to report the stench, which had begun to seep into houses and garages.
