20 Sydney Venues To Stay Open For Longer

Sydney's nightlife has been thrown a much needed lifeline, with 20 venues given the green light to stay open for longer.

Among those now able to stay open until 3:30am include The World Bar, Kings Cross Hotel and Establishment, while lockouts have also been pushed back 30 minutes to 2am.

It comes after the State Government announced in December that venues which provide live entertainment like bands and DJs could apply to have restrictions relaxed.

Minister for racing Paul Toole, hopes this will bring a boost to our nightlife.

“Extended trading is a key part of our renewed focus on providing diverse night-time entertainment options, while balancing the need for community safety,” he said.

To be granted trading extensions, Liquor & Gaming NSW look at feedback from NSW Police and the venue’s record of compliance with liquor laws.

Some venues didn't make the cut due to their poor compliance record.

Sydney's pubs and clubs have struggled since the lockout laws were introduced in February 2014, with many venues like Hugos Bar and Lounge, The Soho and Beach Haus closing their doors.
