A woman has been charged after allegedly using a meat cleaver to wound a man in Darlinghurst.

On Friday January 5, a man and a woman became involved in an altercation at a unit on Boundary Street, Darlinghurst.

It is understood that they were know to each other.

During the incident, the 38-year-old woman is alleged to have punched the 51-year-old man several times.

She is then alleged to have used a meat cleaver to inflict numerous wounds to the man's chest and body.

The man was treated at St Vincent's Hospital, and at 4.30pm on Sunday police arrested the woman at her home.

She has been charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She has been refused bail and will appear at Central Local Court today.
