A Queensland man has been charged with child sex offences, more than 12 years after the alleged assaults.

A Queensland man has been charged with child sex offences more than 12 years after the alleged assaults occurred in the Riverina.

The man, now aged 37, was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice (FCAN) in Townsville yesterday (Monday 29 October 2018), for the offences of sexual intercourse with a person aged under 14 and over 16 years (four counts), and two counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The charges relate to an incident in 2006, in which a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home in Lavington, near Albury, by a man known to her.

Detectives from Murray River Police District have been assisted by officers from the Townsville Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Unit in their investigations into the whereabouts of the man.

He is due to appear in Albury Local Court on Tuesday 18 December 2018.
