We're expecting a lot of rain

Article heading image for Flood Warning for The Border!

This Flood Watch is being issued for North East Victoria (Upper Murray, Mitta Mitta, Kiewa, Ovens and King Catchments).

A strong front is expected to approach southwest Victoria on Monday night before moving across the state later on Tuesday. Another front will approach the southwest of Victoria later on Thursday, reaching the northeast on Friday.

Heavy rainfall is possible in the northeast ranges from Tuesday afternoon. In the 24 hours from Tuesday afternoon around 30-50mm of rainfall is expected across the northeast with 50-70mm of warm precipitation possible about the alpine peaks. This could act to enhance snow-melt.

Stream rises are expected in response to the forecast rain, with the possibility of localised areas of minor flooding developing in the North East catchments during Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if and when required.
