A 72-year-old man shot while cycling the Myrtleford-Everton Rail Trail says he feels lucky to be alive, after he was struck by bullets in the face and torso over the weekend.

Kelvin Tennant received surgery overnight following Saturday's unprovoked attack which stunned the Border North East.

The hunt continues for the gunman - described as a man in a dark sedan – police urging bike riders who travelled the track that day to come forward.

His children have been left scratching their heads over why he would be targeted and  believe he may have been about to ride past  something the gunman "didn't want him to see".
