Murray Goulburn has announced they will be shutting three manufacturing facilities as a response to reduced milk intake.

A facility in Tasmania will be the first to close in December - Rochester's plant will shut in March 2018 - Kiewa's plant will shut in September next year.

It's estimated 360 employees will be affected by today's announcement - the Rochester and Kiewa plant closures will be in stages - commencing this august.

The Co-Op says ‘these closures in no way change our ability to collect and process our suppliers’ milk, with intake able to be processed at our other manufacturing sites.

In some positive news with supplies who have remained with MG, they'll no longer have the stress of repaying the Milk Supply Support Package from July onwards this year.

Milk producers who paid the MSSP contribution between July and September last year will be paid back, as well as any farmers who choose to return to the milk giant before the end of July 2017.
