One of Lavington’s busiest four-way intersections will be replaced with a roundabout under a $1.165M contract awarded to local firm AP Delaney and Co.

The new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Thurgoona Drive, Catherine Crescent and Travelstop Way.

AlburyCity Mayor, Kevin Mack, says a number of factors contributed to Council identifying the intersection for an upgrade, including poor performance at peak times,  heavy vehicles accessing adjoining industrial areas and concerns around safety.

“Thurgoona Drive is a major arterial road and an important link between Albury’s northern suburbs, while Catherine Crescent and Travelstop Way are key entrances to the nearby industrial areas. The new roundabout will not only cater for heavy vehicle turning movements, but also the potential future duplication of Thurgoona Drive.”

In awarding the contract to AP Delaney, Council took into consideration the company’s availability to undertake and deliver the completed project in 12 weeks, minimising the level of disruption to road users, nearby businesses and the broader community.

Council also tonight awarded a $322,000 contract for the reconstruction of Yambla Place in central Albury.

The road, which is very steep has deteriorated over time making it difficult for vehicles to access.

The contract was awarded to Excell Gray Bruni.
