UPDATE: The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting the prop is most likely to have fallen in the Camden area in Sydney's south west.

REX has released a statement on the incident, which has shed no light on the cause. It reads:

FLIGHT ZL768 ALBURY TO SYDNEY
Regional Express (Rex) flight ZL768 operating from Albury to Sydney on 17 March 2017 experienced an event associated with the aircraft’s right propeller assembly. The crew followed standard operating procedures and the aircraft landed normally and on-time at Sydney Airport.

The 16 passengers and 3 crew members were met by Rex staff upon arrival and did not require any further assistance.

Rex is investigating the cause of the incident, and the matter has been reported to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) as well as the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).

EARLIER: CASA (the Civil Aviation Safety Authority) have confirmed the propeller fell approximately 20km from Sydney Airport, although have not confirmed from which direction the aircraft was approaching.

EARLIER: A REX plane which departed Albury has lost its propeller while en route to Sydney.

16 passengers and 3 crew members were on board.

A spokesperson for REX has confirmed that the plane did lose its prop but managed to land safely in Sydney at 12:05pm. The spokesperson would not confirm any other details.
