Townsville is being directly affected by suicide every day, and the rate is rising, but now there's a plan to turn that statistic around.
Tomorrow the Townsville Suicide Prevention Network (TSPN) is launching Townsville’s first Community Action Plan for Suicide Prevention.
The TSPN’s Townsville Community Action Plan has strategies that can be implemented immediately and aims to see a significant reduction in the rate of suicide and suicide attempts in Townsville by the year 2020.
“The plan is a Townsville-First approach towards suicide prevention in our community. Suicide prevention is everyone’s business, and as such it is important to empower everyone in our city to recognise and respond to this challenge. The Townsville Community Action Plan will engage the services of a range of community groups and evidence based practices to provide cohesive support to those who need it the most,” said Alison Fairleigh, Chair of the Townsville Suicide Prevention Network.
“We welcome the public to attend the launch on Tuesday. In addition, people can keep up-to-date with regular posts on the Facebook Page www.facebook.com/TownsvilleSPN. We are anticipating livestreaming the launch through Facebook Live on the day for those unable to attend in person and electronic resources will be made available via our website www.tspn.org.au post launch.”
