Preparations for the Supercars to hit the streets of Townsville are gearing up. Council crews are working to put together the street circuit by closing off roads around the Reid Park complex. Road closures will be in place across the city for the Watpac Townsville 400 from tonight (Friday June 29) at 8pm through to 5am Tuesday, July 10.
The road closures affect Boundary St, between Woolcock St and Railway Avenue, and Charters Towers Rd, between Boundary St and Ingham Rd. Detour signage will be installed around these roads. Deputy Mayor Les Walker asked motorists to be patient over the next few days while preparations for North Queensland’s biggest event speed up.
A Regulated Event Parking Area will be operating in Hyde Park, Hermit Park and Railway Estate from 7am–7pm through Friday 6 July, to Sunday 8 July. A two-hour limit will apply to any vehicle parked on the street during this time.
