A combination of birthdates and old house numbers has delivered a Townsville pensioner couple a division one prize of more than $669,000 in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.
The happy winners only discovered the news this morning when a Golden Casket official broke the news to them.
The couple was one of six division one winning entries nationally, and one of two from Queensland, in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3741 on Saturday 27 May 2017.
“You are joking! Oh! Can I just write that figure down?” the happy woman questioned.
“We get excited if we win $20 and that covers the cost of the next ticket! This is just wonderful!
I really can’t believe it. We’re just pensioners – we’ve done the hard yards. We’ve dreamt of this, but didn’t think it would ever happen.”
The couple plan to share their windfall with their family.
The winners, who want to remain anonymous, purchased their winning 12-game marked entry at Nextra Willows News, Shop 117, Willows Shopping Centre, 13 Hervey Range Road, Thuringowa Central.
It’s the third lotto win in North Queensland during the past four weeks. On 29 April, a South Townsville pensioner won almost $800,000 in Saturday Gold Lotto, while last week a Charters Towers retiree won $1 million in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto.
