A bizarre crime in Wulguru has left a pair of home owners in shock.

A pet horse named Sally was stolen from a Barambah Street property on Monday afternoon.

The home owners were in Airlie Beach, with a relative visiting the property to feed Sally around 4pm on Monday when the horse was nowhere to be found.

The offender was seen leading the 6-year-old out of the front gate, being caught on CCTV vision.

Sally was found shortly afterwards in a man's backyard nearby, distressed and sweating from being ridden.

Sally's owners say they're relieved she was found, but urge other pet owners to be extra careful.
