With the recent heavy rains in WA, the risk of mosquito borne diseases has risen according to health officials.

Some parts of southern WA have picked up over 400mm of rain since the start of the year and has resulted in stagnant water in many areas.

According to the WA Health Department, that increases the risk of viruses such as the Ross River and Barmah Forest.

We may not see the increase of mosquitos until later next week.

The Pilbara, Goldfields-Esperance and Swan Valley have all been declared disaster zones following flooding and the blocking off of some major roads.
