Detailed designs of how Bunbury’s Koombana Bay is expected to look once its $24.9 million revitalisation is complete have been unveiled today by the Liberal National Government.

Features of the revitalised precinct will include an amphitheatre, renovated kiosk, playground, picnic and pop-up areas for markets and food trucks, and universal beach access. There will also be improved parking.

“We’re another step closer to Bunbury having a greatly enhanced foreshore that will strengthen the link between the city’s waterfront, central business district and the Dolphin Discovery Centre,” Premier and Tourism Minister Mr Colin Barnett said.

“Once complete, there will be both economic and community benefits, with improved public amenity and a boost to tourism, which will be great for local businesses."

“The project is expected to support 117 jobs through the construction phase and 42 ongoing full-time roles through expanded tourism expenditure across Greater Bunbury.”

The precinct forms part of the first stage of the wider Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project, which also includes the redevelopment of the Dolphin Discovery Centre into a world-class attraction that is expected to inspire more people to visit and explore what the city has to offer.

“Between the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project, Koombana North and new Department of Parks and Wildlife headquarters, the city is going to be a hive of activity,” Regional Development Minister Mr Terry Redman said.

The Koombana Bay foreshore revitalisation will be managed by the City of Bunbury, and works are expected to begin by early April.
