UPDATE: Bushfire ADVICE: eastern part of Roelands

Firefighters have been able to control a fire in Roelands this afternoon.

As a result, the fire alert level has been downgraded to an advice.

The fire is currently burning away from roads and homes, however residents in the area are still being urged to stay alert. 

The cause of the fire, which started at the intersection of Waterloo and Government Roads in Roelands, is unknown.

A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people east of Livingstone Heights and north of Quarry Road in ROELANDS in the SHIRE OF HARVEY.

• The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire is now controlled.
• There is no threat to lives or homes.
• Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
• The fire started near the intersection of WATERLOO RD and GOVERNMENT RD in ROELANDS.
• The fire is currently burning away from homes and roads.

WHAT TO DO:

• Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
• Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
• Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
• Read through your bushfire survival plan.
• If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

If driving

• Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
• Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
• Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

• It is controlled but not contained.
• Firefighters are expecting the wind to shift from south westerly to south south easterly at 6pm.

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS:

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

• Firefighters are on the scene and actively fighting the fire.
• 50 Department of Parks and Wildlife, volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters are attending.
• Aerial support has been sent to protect crews and homes.

EXTRA INFORMATION:

• The fire was reported at 11:05 AM on 16 January 2017 and currently there has been 10-15 hectares burnt.
• The cause of the fire is unknown.
• the Shire of Harvey is managing the fire.
