Michael Hutchence is the frontman of the hugely successful Aussie rock band INXS, and is known widely for his dark but vibrant performances. Here are 6 facts about the singer that you might not know...

1. Hutchence Wasn't JUST A Singer

Most are unaware that Hutchence was a bit of a triple threat. He acted in feature films, including Dogs in Space (1986), Frankenstein Unbound (1990) and Limp (1997).

 2. His Affair With A Married Woman

Not only was he romantically linked to model Helena Christianson and Kylie Minogue, he started a relationship with married British TV Host Paula Yates. Obviously, Hutchence's rugged, Rock 'n' Roll persona was too much to dismiss, because Paula had 3 children and was married to Bob Geldof when she began an affair with the Aussie rocker. This flirty television interview is rumoured to be where it all began...

3. U2 Wrote A Song About An Argument With Hutchence

It was confirmed that U2's song “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” was written about Hutchence. Bono has said that the track is an imagined argument between him and his friend Hutchence about the foolishness of suicide. “The biggest respect I could pay to him was to not write some stupid, soppy song,” he said.

4. Wife Paula was Convinced his Death wasn't a Suicide

Paula Yates did not agree with the statement that Hutchence's death was suicidal and attempted to overturn the New South Wales' coroner's ruling. She's told Britain's Channel 4 television network that she believes Hutchence accidentally killed himself while trying to perform a so called auto-erotic sex act.

5. The Mysterious Number Meaning in the 'Mediate' Music Video

You may have seen the mysterious numbers 9.8.1945 that appears on a cue card in the ‘Mediate’ music video. Well these aren't just a random bunch of numbers, they refer to the 9th August 1945, when an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan. This was a result of the band's passionate protest of nuclear missile testing.

6. The Brutal Assault

In August 1992, Hutchence and his girlfriend Helena Christensen were walking after drinking heavily when he refused to move for a taxi. The taxi driver then assaulted him, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the roadway. Hutchence didn't immediately seek medical assistance, and as a result his fractured skull left him with an almost complete loss of the sense of smell and significant loss of taste. This injury also led to periods of depression and increased levels of aggression, and many rumour this was just one of the factors that led to his death in 1997.
