Another Title For Nathaniel "Cheeky" May

The March To Number 1 Continues

Cheeky May and I have a long standing joke between us that one day I will get in the ring with him.

If I'm leaving the gym as he's coming in for training there'll be an insult about him avoiding me, again, and today when I called to congratulate Cheeks for another milestone he joked we were supposed to be sparring today so why was I not there.

It will happen, I figure I'll just tie his hands behind his back and I MIGHT have half a chance!

Last night Nathaniel May was crowned South West Sports Star Of The Year at a glittering ceremony in Bunbury, a fitting top to an amazing year.

Cheeky won the junior award several years ago and last night bested a stellar field including Dockers footballer Connor Blakely and Olympian Lauren Reynolds to now be the senior sports star.

Last year was full of very big ups and dreadful downs, the best being 3 wins, including a 5th round knockout againstĀ Aelio Mesquita to now hold the IBF Pan Pacific Featherweight title, adding to his IBF Australasian title and WBO Asio Pacific title.

The lowest was the death recently of long time trainer Peter Stokes who took Cheeky under his wing from a very young age.

Next up for 22 year old May is a possible trip to California to train with legendary coach Freddie Roach, then a fight, probably in England, in about 6 weeks to shoot for the number 1 ranking in the world and from there it's a world title shot.

Then me.

Yer right.
