Faith In Human Nature Is Saved

We Are All In This World Together

I've been watching a lot of news in the last week, following the natural disaster that is Hurricane Harvey and it's devastation of parts of Texas and now other cities on the coast.

You'd need a heart of stone not to be touched by the footage of houses lost, highways flooded like never before and the faces of people who have lost everything.

However what you may not have seen, unless you are glued to Sky NEWS and CNN like me are the stories of heroism and generosity of spirit of people who have stepped up to help.

We've seen it here in WA too, recently, with the awful flooding in Ravensthorpe, and in previous years when bushfires swept through Yarloop and Margaret River.

I remember one of our English exam subjects from '75 " An emergency brings out the best in people" and it's true.

America in 2017 is one of the most divided countries in the world but even the most hardened of us must feel a twinge of joy at stories of others, like the 2 guys in this pic who took it upon themselves to give out precious fresh water.

Or the guy who bought a boat, travelled across 2 states to be in Texas so he could help ferry complete strangers to safety.

No questions asked of whether you are a democrat or republican, gay or straight, black white or brindle.

Ordinary, everyday people who simply need to help others in need.

Maybe there is hope for the human race after all.
