Here We Go Again. Another Look At Drugs Policy

Will WA Change?

Article heading image for Here We Go Again. Another Look At Drugs Policy

Stop me if you've heard this one before, a government might re examine their drugs policy.

A Parliamentary committee to be headed by Greens MP Alison Xamon with reps from other parties will look at "alternate approaches to reducing illicit drug use"

Methamphetanie use in WA appears to still be going up with no sign I have seen of a turnaround, one in 25 report having used the drug in recent times.

WA also has seen an increase in accidental drug related deaths with numbers doubling in the past 15 years!

Many health and legal professionals including Tom Percy QC have been saying for ages the war on drugs is lost, strong penalties are not working and the whole issue should be acknowledged as a health issue instead of a legal dilemma.

I don't see anything changing until we have a seismic shift in political thinking.

The instant one party of whatever colour puts forward an idea which does not include severe penalties for drug issues the other party screams from the tree tops "Your're soft on drugs!" and nothing is even examined and we go around again.

For a zillion different reasons the current poilicies are not working so why not at least look at alternatives?

Maybe this time.............................
