We Have A Long Way To Go For SSM Vote

It's Only Going To Get More Tiresome

Check the date, not even the end of September yet which means we have a long way to go before the issue of same sex marriage is decided, one way or the other.

Until the next election.

Today the AFL is copping some heat because they are taking a stand by putting up a YES sign at their headquarters and on the footys.

I spoke to a mate this morning who's "appalled" by that move, but he won't change his vote. His mind was already made up.

Will any of the campaigns, which are costing an awful lot of money, actually change anybody's mind?

This is not like a regular election campaign where swinging, if you'll excuse the expression, voters might be swayed by a new policy or something that happens during the weeks leading up to election day.

Alan Joyce is spending $1m of his own money to forward the YES campaign, if you believe some of the stories churches are spending a fortune on the NO campaign.

Not that marriage has anything to do with the church but that's another issue.

That money could surely be better spent by Mr Joyce on housing for gay people shunned by family and certainly by the church on a zillion better causes.

Sadly the vitriol will continue, seemingly on both sides until the announcement is made on Nov 15.

We have a long road ahead.
