Members of the community have rallied around the Carters and shown their support in many ways since finding out Council have voted yes to the compulsory acquisition of their land in Marong. A group of supporters will travel with the Carter's tomorrow to support Tamrie Carter on the steps of Parliament House from 11am. The planning minister, the Premier and the member for Bendigo West have been invited to come out and meet with Tamrie and be personally handed a plea letter from the Carters between 12 noon and 12.15pm The opposition has also been invited to come and meet with Tamrie.

The background:

Tamrie Carter was only 11 years of age when the City of Greater Bendigo first sent a Real Estate agent to her family farm on the outskirts of Bendigo to inform her family he had a buyer for a parcel of land that makes up approximately 1/3 of the family farm. Tamrie's father Max was shocked by this as at no time was the land for sale. Max informed the real estate agent that the land was not for sale and closed the door.

15 years later (just a couple of weeks ago) the City of Greater Bendigo voted to write to the Victorian planning minister seeking his approval to undertake a compulsory acquisition of the land that has been in the family for over 100 years.
