Adele's 25 selling like hotcakes

Adele is the it girl of the moment.

Her new album 25 has only been available to buy for a few days, but it has already broken a few big records.

In the United States, Canada and the UK, it is the fastest selling album of all time.

2.5 million copies have now been sold in America, over 250,000 in Canada and close to 1 million copies in Britain.

There's even a stat in the UK her album is being sold every half a second!

Why is it going so well? It's probably because the album isn't available on streaming sites like Spotify and Pandora. So if you want to hear the album, you have to do it the old-fashioned way.

Here's some of the other fast selling albums of all time

OASIS - BE HERE NOW

The Manchester band's third studio album included D'You Know What I Mean? and Stand By Me. In the first day in the UK it sold over 350,000 copies and went on to sell approximately 750,000 in their home country. It went number one here in Australia as well as Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland, France and New Zealand, but could only make it to number 2 in the US (held off by Puff Daddy's No Way Out)

*N SYNC - NO STRINGS ATTACHED

Yes, boy bands are a strong feature in fastest-selling albums. Oh those teenage girls using their last bit of pocket money. 2.4 million albums were sold in the first week in the United States. They held the record in the US until Adele came along. Keep in mind, their follow-up album Celebrity also went gangbusters, selling nearly 1.9 million copies in the first week as well.

COLDPLAY - X&Y

There was plenty of hype surrounding Coldplay's third studio album. Chris Martin said "people are a bit sick of us." Wrong. After spending nearly 18 months on the album, Coldplay saw record sales soar early. In the UK alone, it had sold nearly 500,000 in the first week and went to number one in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany and Italy. Even the Belgians went mad for it, being their number one album for 2005.

AC/DC - BLACK ICE

The Aussie rockers have had amazing success their whole career. When they released their 2008 offering Black Ice, there were some suggesting the boat had sailed. But almost 1 million copies worldwide in a week suggests they were still a big beast in music circles. It went to the top of the charts here in Australia, as well as the UK and US in the first week. Add that to their over $440 million raked in on their world tour and the guys aren't really worrying about where their next meal is coming from.
